§ 3. ELECTORS; REGISTRATION.

  • That all male inhabitants of said town in good faith resident therein for at least twenty days prior to the election, who shall have registered as may be required by ordinance of the town, and who possess the qualifications for members of the legislature of this state, and none other, shall be qualified electors of said town; and it shall be the duty of the mayor and aldermen to provide by ordinance for the registration of voters and the manner of holding and conducting elections for town officers. Any person who shall falsely swear in taking the registration oath shall be guilty of perjury, and shall be subject to the penalty prescribed by law in this state.

Section 246 of the Mississippi Constitution establishes that qualifications of electors in municipal elections are as provided by state law.
